Humanities: Fourth Quarter Project

Teaching Latin America

Your challenge is to investigate, research, discuss, analyze, evaluate and teach information about Latin America. Then, in collaboration with your team members, create a wiki page (website) to show what YOU have found out about the trends and what YOU learned about Latin America.

ARE THERE 19 COUNTRIES IN LATIN AMERICA?

The list below is a student generated list of countries that the classes came up with. In class we asked some of you to comment on how this decision was reached...Instead of adding to the discussion board, below this table iadd some of the information that helped your group to reach this decision...
Caribbean
Central America/ Mexico
South America
Dominican Republic
Nicaragua
Brazil
Cuba

Bolivia

FOR EXAMPLE
(from JohnP3 on the discussion board)
Well the Latin American Countries can be defined different ways. They can be split up politically, historically, linguistically, geographically, etc. From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_America

From a strict cultural and linguistic perspective, it would include all countries and territories in the Americas where Romance languages — Spanish, Portuguese, French, and their creoles — are spoken. But the English-speaking countries of North and South America are not included in Latin America.

WAS THIS WIKIPEDIA ENTRY THE ONLY FACTOR? WHAT OTHER THINGS DID WE CONSIDER?

HELPFUL HINTS*

IF YOU GET A MESSAGE when you go to edit the page that someone else it editing--DON'T TRY TO EDIT--you may lose your work.
Here are some ideas about what to do so that you can continue your work

  1. Type in word to add later
  2. Use the MAIL feature to contact the group member that is currently editing the page to let them know you are trying to add work.
  3. CHECK THE HISTORY tab to make sure your work is there and you didn't accidentally delete anyone else's work.

  • The Teams:**
  • You will have one week in class to prepare your space. Your team will consist of members from your own class as well as Ms. Skatz's other humanities period. You will need to use the discussion board to plan your page. Only the actual wikispace will be evaluated so make sure all of the information discussed on the discussion board is represented on your webpage.
